BYD has unveiled the Seal 08, a new flagship sedan that showcases the company's latest advances in battery technology and intelligent driving, while becoming the first model in its portfolio to include flash-charging capability as standard on both battery-electric and plug-in hybrid variants.
The six-model lineup starts at 196,900 yuan (around US$29,030), positioning the Seal 08 as a cornerstone of BYD's strategy to capture a larger share of China's fast-growing premium new energy vehicle market.
One Platform, Two Powertrain Choices
Rather than separating its electric and plug-in hybrid offerings into different product families, BYD has built the Seal 08 around a common platform that supports both propulsion systems.
Customers can choose from three fully electric models or three plug-in hybrid variants, with entry-level versions of each sharing the same starting price. The flagship lineup extends to an all-wheel-drive electric model priced at 239,900 yuan.
To encourage adoption of its latest charging technology, BYD is including 12 months of complimentary flash-charging services and temporary protection covering incidents related to its intelligent parking and assisted driving functions.
Battery Technology Takes Center Stage
The Seal 08 is the first BYD sedan to feature the second-generation Blade Battery across its entire range.
For battery-electric models, the battery is paired with an 800-volt architecture capable of delivering a maximum CLTC range of 905 kilometers. Under ideal charging conditions, BYD says the system can replenish enough energy for approximately 400 kilometers of driving in about five minutes.
Meanwhile, the plug-in hybrid models combine a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with an electric drivetrain, enabling up to 400 kilometers of pure electric driving and a combined CLTC range reaching 1,660 kilometers.
Intelligent Systems Become Standard Equipment
Instead of limiting advanced driver assistance features to premium trims, BYD has equipped every Seal 08 with its LiDAR-based God's Eye B intelligent driving platform.
The suite includes City Navigation on Autopilot, Highway Navigation on Autopilot and Automatic Emergency Braking, bringing technologies previously reserved for higher-end models to the entire lineup.
Rear-wheel steering is also standard, reducing the sedan's turning radius to 4.95 meters despite its 5.15-meter overall length.
Higher-specification versions add DiSus-A intelligent air suspension, which continuously adapts damping characteristics after scanning road conditions ahead to improve both ride comfort and vehicle stability.
Designed to Compete at the Premium End
The Seal 08 adopts BYD's Ocean Aesthetics 2.0 design language, featuring a streamlined fastback profile, a 3,030-millimeter wheelbase and proportions aimed at the executive sedan segment.
Inside, the focus shifts to passenger comfort, with zero-gravity front seats complemented by heating, ventilation and massage functions available throughout the cabin.
The launch reflects BYD's broader effort to differentiate itself through proprietary technologies rather than price alone. By combining next-generation batteries, high-speed charging and advanced driver assistance into a single model range, the automaker is positioning the Seal 08 as a technology flagship as competition intensifies in China's premium new energy vehicle market.
